Building the White House

Designing and building an environmentally-sustainable home.

Images our Architect sent us

Posted on | August 25, 2008 |

Our architect Monica sent these images to us along with a bunch of others to help her determine a ’style’ for the the house. We weren’t really into the others, but these really encapsulate our thoughts. A modern design with classic detailing (raw cedar shingles really do it for me!).

The cedar shingles? That’s SO Cape Cod! They weather to a nice grey.

Be sure to specify eastern cedar shingles which go a nice silver grey. Western cedar tend to go black unless they are properly sealed.

Eastern White cedar shingles, each hand dipped in a natural preservative (turns silver in days) will be specified if we go the shingle way. Western should not be used in the East.
